Recycled yarns from Ocean Waste
Every year, 8 million tons of garbage reach the seas. 75% lies underneath the ocean's surface, forming an immediate threat to marine life. BekaertDeslee is taking part in a massive ocean cleanup initiative: The SEAQUAL initiative.
Each material, including aluminum, metal, glass, or plastic, goes to its own unique recycling chain. Textile technology enables us to take the plastics found in the ocean and recycle them into new yarns that are used to produce our high-quality mattress textiles and mattress covers.
Recycled yarns from Plastic Bottles
Recycling plastic bottles into yarns and fabrics reduces waste and promotes sustainability. By recycling Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from plastic bottles, it can be turned into new PET products. The resulting PET granulates are used for crafting PES yarns, creating fabrics, cutting waste, and lowering carbon emissions and energy consumption.
By coloring the granulates, it is possible to produce colored PES yarns, which can be used to create a wide variety of new fabrics. This dope-dyed way of coloring has significantly lower environmental impacts than more traditional coloring methods.
Recycled yarns from Post-production Waste
Our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system enables us to sort waste from production, creating clean waste streams of white and colored Polyester (PES). Together with a few selected partners, we manage to recycle and produce high-quality PES.
These yarns contribute to the circular economy in the textile industry, prevent the creation of landfill waste and avoid textile incineration, and have a lower carbon footprint compared to virgin polyester yarns, which are oil-based.
Recycled yarns from Polyester Textile Waste
We reuse and recycle textile waste to create a new yarn of recycled PES through chemical recycling. This recycled polyester yarn is made from fabric waste such as waste garments and leftover materials from production (both pre- and post-production), and it’s a direct contribution to a circular economy.
While this process may demand more energy and resources, it produces recycled polyester yarn of unparalleled quality, comparable to virgin polyester. This commitment to excellence ensures that our products contribute to both sustainability and performance in a circular economy.
Recycled yarns from Recycled Denim
Recycling textile waste to create yarns and fabrics can significantly reduce the environmental impact of the textile industry. By spinning yarn from discarded denim and combining it with recycled ecru polyester, it is possible to obtain a colored product without using a dying process, which can save water and energy.
Through recycling textile waste, we can reduce the need for virgin materials, thereby reducing carbon emissions, energy consumption, and water usage.
